General
Will I get VIA hours for volunteering with forYouths?
Upon successfully completing some basic requirements, all volunteers will become eligible to receive some kind of a volunteering record which can be submitted to your respective schools. Based on whether you are a mentor/advisor or an administrator, you will be provided with different types of records to best represent your contribution to forYouths. That being said, as per standard practice, whether or not the record will be accepted is entirely at the discretion of your school. For mentors/advisors who were recruited via collaborations with IHL student organizations, VIA hours will be awarded by the student organization itself.
What is the minimum commitment period for volunteers?
This will entirely depend on whether you are a mentor/advisor or an administrator. If you are interested in being a mentor/advisor, kindly check out the pages of the respective mentorship programme you are interested in. For adminstrators, the typical minimum commitment period as listed in a generic volunteer service agreement is 6 months. That being said, we commonly make exceptions as per the individual circumstances of our administrators.
I would like to commit long-term but have busy periods, is it possible to withdraw temporarily?
We always emphasize that all roles here at forYouths are fundamentally volunteering positions. As such, we do not want commitment here at forYouths to be at the expense of our volunteers' primary commitment (such as schooling and work). If you are a mentor/advisor, the respective coordinating teams will take note of the dates which you are unable to volunteer with us and adjust their engagement with you accordingly. As for administrators, if you anticipate being away for a protracted period of time, such as to prepare for national examinations, all you need to do is to simply inform the team, and the internal affairs team will coordinate accordingly.
